European Union supports two training for Judges and Prosecutors: building the capacities for effective investigating and prosecuting cases of torture
Between 20 and 23 May and 01 and 04 June 2015, within the framework of the implementation of the European Union- funded project “Strengthening the fight against torture and impunity in Kyrgyzstan: Prevention, Accountability, Remedy and Reparation”, the Ludwig Boltzman Institute for Human Rights (BIM) and the Tian Shan Policy Center (TSPC) of the American University of Central Asia have co-organized two training of trainers for judges and prosecutors of the Kyrgyz Republic to strengthen the capacities in investigating allegations of torture and prosecuting those responsible for such violations.

Visiting student from Washington University at AUCA
Zack Staples is a visiting student from the U.S., who grew up on the Caribbean island of Barbados. He came to Kyrgyzstan a few weeks ago, and now he is volunteering for the PR office of AUCA as well as travelling around Kyrgyzstan. Zack told us about himself, why he deferred attending Washington University for a year, and what he likes most in Kyrgyzstan.

AUCA Professor and her students collaborated on sociology research project with Otto-von-Guericke-University in Germany
Chair of General Education Department and professor of Sociology Department at AUCA, Galina Gorborukova, contributed to the publication of a research “When salary is not Enough… Private Households in Central Asia”. The book presents a cross-country, rural-urban comparison in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan based on secondary data and quantitative and qualitative primary research.

Alumni Spotlight: Seinep Dyikanbaeva, IBL 108
Seinep currently works at The Association of parents of disabled children (APDC). She is a member and finalist of "School of Precedents" implemented by Precedent Partner Group. Seinep was a member of AUCA Alumni Council from 2012 to 2014.

New AUCA donors to finance scholarships of students from Talas
Students from the Talas region will have their studies at AUCA sponsored by Talas Copper Gold and Andash Mining Company (AMC), a subsidiary of Robust Resources Singapore (TCG). The agreement, signed on May 15, shows businesses’ interests in investing in higher education of youth in Central Asia.
