CASI RESEARCH SEMINAR: "Negotiating Kyrgyz Nationhood: Of History Textbooks' and History Teachers' Attitudes towards the Soviet Past"

Abstract: In my dissertation I analysed representations of Soviet socialism in post-Soviet history textbooks and in the life stories of history teachers in Kyrgyzstan. I analysed, first, how the post-Soviet Kyrgyz state reconstructs its Soviet past on the level of official discourse, particularly in school history textbooks, and second, how history teachers – as professionals and private citizens – relate to the official discourse when making sense of the Soviet past.

“Give a Cow” charity event took place in AUCA
A fundraiser for the “Give a Cow” social project took place at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA). The project was launched by the Bishkek Rotary Club one year ago. At the moment, 22 families have already received cows. Organizers plan to reach 100 families within the year.

“4+1” educational program
This fall, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) will launch a new “4+1” educational program. After studying four years at AUCA and getting a diploma, AUCA graduates of Business Administration will be able to apply to the “4+1” program to continue their education abroad.

Ecological Leadership Program (ELP) project participants held a meeting with Patrick Barrow. Barrow is expected to be an assistant instructor for the ELP project this summer. Patrick handed out the project information packet to all the participants and answered any questions that they had.
